Janice Poitras is currently working towards her B. Comm. through the U of S. She has many years of experience working with her relatives (directly and indirectly) looking to enter or re-enter the labour market. About 10 of those years were spent behind the scenes building capacity of front-line case workers with customized training, ensuring service delivery of various funding agreements and data management which included reporting.
Ms. Poitras’ employment experiences working for various crown corporations, Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations have provided her with firsthand experience the many challenges Indigenous people face in the today’s workforce. That lived experience enhanced Janice’s belief that there continues to be much needed advocacy work for vulnerable persons and populations as they navigate through programs and services. This continued advocacy work has allowed Janice to obtain a skillset of speaking and facilitating with Indigenous flair, that is both meaningful and engaging. Put her in a room of 5-500 people, she will gladly work the room from an indigenous perspective with a touch of humor.
Other personal passions include suicide prevention training, learning and sharing traditional knowledge from a Cree worldview and atim advocacy. (Atim is the Cree word for dog)
