Tanis Shanks
Senior Consultant, Prevention
Tanis Shanks is a registered social worker with 14 years of experience in the areas of parenting education, program & training development, facilitation, prevention, and most recently working in First Nations Child and Family Services. She has worked for multiple non-profit organizations, a First Nation Tribal Council and a First Nation community. Tanis has also taught sessional classes for the University of Regina Faculty of Social Work in Saskatoon.
There have been many career highlights but a couple that stand out are becoming a Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program Trainer; being on the organizing committee for the first Dad’s Central Canada Father Involvement conference held in Winnipeg in 2017; and presenting at various conferences across Canada.
During the last 4 years, Tanis worked as the Manager of Prevention and then later as the Director of Wellbeing Services for a First Nation community in Saskatchewan. She helped to develop the foundation and programming for Prevention, First Nations Representative Services, and Post Majority support services program. It was within this work that Tanis also gained experience in the area’s of writing proposals for C-92 and CHRT-41 initiatives.
Tanis’ educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) majoring in Native Studies from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina, and a master’s in social work also through the University of Regina.
Tanis is married with 3 grown (almost) children. Her interests are Pilates and fitness, crafting, enjoying warm weather, and Paddleboarding. Tanis just completed the fitness instructor course through the city of Saskatoon and is working on completing a Pilates teacher training certificate.
