Julie Newman
Senior Facilitator
Julie Newman is a Certified Human Resources Leader with over 15 years of experience in the HR field and is passionate about creating and supporting welcoming, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplaces. This was cultivated during 11 years in senior leadership at Camino Mental Health + Wellbeing, a local non-profit. She is a well-rounded HR professional with specialized expertise in building organizational culture, performance management, leadership and followership, recruitment, employee relations, and health and safety.
Julie’s Honors degree in Kinesiology and Masters of Medical Science provide her with a unique skill set to bring practical solutions that balance HR best practices with organizational needs. Julie thrives on finding and implementing innovative solutions to support organizational strategies. Throughout her career she has grown from overseeing and managing a variety of operational areas in addition to HR. These include risk management, quality, communications, privacy, and customer service. As a life-long learner, she loves applying this knowledge to effectively address business problems.
On a personal level, Julie has been a longtime member of Immigration Partnership’s Work Steering group and is acutely aware of the challenges immigrants face with respect to employment. This includes being actively involved in Waterloo Region's recently launched Workplace Immigrant Network; a single place that connects local employers with immigrant talent.
In her spare time, she enjoys connecting with family, cottaging in Muskoka and all things basketball. Her approach to life can be summed up by Michael Jordan’s quote – “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships
