THE FOUR TRUTHS THAT WILL ENSURE “ENGAGED EMPLOYEES”
Have you heard rumblings among your staff? Are some employees just not towing the line? Well, perhaps it is because they aren’t buying into the vision of your organization. If you are suffering from a revolving door of employees, it may be time to think about re-engaging your staff.
Here are four things you can do to keep your employees happier, and your bottom line healthier.
1) Give them pertinent information
In the absence of information, people will make up their own. If you don’t want to hear the water cooler gossip that “the office here is closing and is being re-located to Bongo Bongo to capitalize on cheap labour”, keep them in the loop. If you withhold information, an ‘us versus them’ attitude will emerge, and it’s tough to get that trust back.
2) Teach them to fish
Don’t rush in to ’save the day’. Expect, and accept that they will make mistakes. Live with it, give them guidance, and allow them to grow.
3) Trust them to make the right decisions
Studies have shown that the strongest message management can send is to support their teams. Give them leeway, give them confidence, give them power.
4) Say what you do, and do what you say
Staff watches you much more closely than you think. As a leader, your integrity is of the utmost importance. Trust will dissipate, and staff discontent will flourish, if you promote one set of values but live by another.
